except for the fact that they are already working on the system and depending on it's release date could double or triple it's processors as well as include something 10-15x more powerful than their current GPU for the same price. One of the problems is that DDR3 is more expensive now then DDR5 and that will only become a larger problem as we move forward... not to mention DX12 technology and full HD 3D support... just wonder what disc format they would use

I don't really think there is a 'Top Spot' when you're talking about consoles. I mean, the PS3 is the superior console of this generation by leaps and bounds, but it's selling the least. Every piece of hardware in Wii has been obsolete for half a decade and it's doing the best. But really, all three companies are prospering, and when you see what's really going on inside the industry, there isn't much bad blood between them, even between Sony and Microsoft, who are in more direct competition. If you're talking about who will win the fanboy 'console war'... does it really matter? As long as consoles sell, the companies that produce them will keep making those consoles, and as long as there's a healthy rivalry, games will keep getting better.

I think MS will release a console next year. Their whole point this generation was being first. Now that the cost of manufacturing the 360 is really low, they can move on to a new console and continue to sell the 360 at a really cheap price. The new console would be so much more powerful than the PS3 that Sony would have to wait long enough to let technology move far enough ahead to make it a much better option or come with a new PS before they want to. Sony definitely doesn't want to move on yet because the PS3 has lost so much money. MS should push that issue.

I think M$ will prolly start working on the new 360 for next gen but won't start producing the systesm till Sony makes a move. Once Sony announces their system, only then will M$ start making the systems... That's my prediction(shyt, I should take Pachters job)

Nope, sorry, don't expect to see new consoles in 2012. Maybe 2013. Microsoft just likes money too much -- they got a 360 install base of ~40 mil to work with in terms of selling software and catering to--don't think they have any plans of completely scrapping those 40 mil users just to release a new console that's costlier to produce and features a shinier GPU. I think the new Xbox 360S case revision as well as the marketing push for Kinect (which Microsoft themselves likens to "launching a new platform") are proof that Microsoft is pretty much committed to keeping the 360 on life support and extending its lifespan as much as possible. Their strategy is probably all about growing and supporting the large current install base of the Xbox 360 rather than scrapping it entirely and starting from square 1. It's just not generally good business to launch new consoles, which is an unfortunate truth for graphics whores like myself who want to see the graphics envelope pushed.
