System Flaw (DSi) Review

E-mail Print PDF

System Flaw Screens (DSi)At one time I thought I had a normal life, but my life changed after I put System Flaw in my DSi.  All of a sudden the DSi camera was picking up footage of flying monsters, invisible to the naked eye, that were attacking me from all angles.  Suddenly, it was up to me to save myself – and mankind, from The Flaw!  I sure as hell wasn’t going to go down without a fight.

System Flaw is an innovative game brought to us by Storm City Entertainment, and has the honor of being the first cartridge game exclusive to the DSi.  (Sorry, DS Lite users, but the future is the DSi, and the future is now.)  The backdrop for System Flaw is wherever you happen to be at the moment, as the game uses the DSi’s built in camera to generate the environments.  Also used throughout the game is the 360° optical flow/motion detection technology.  The controls were simple enough (L and R triggers to shoot) for a casual gamer to enjoy, but the game play was challenging enough for an experienced gamer.  I know I looked silly spinning around with a DSi in my hands, but you don’t understand.  THEY were attacking ME!  I had to defend myself.

Speaking of The Flaw, there are 10 varieties of these horrible little aliens.  Sometimes when you kill one, it will leave behind a power-up that you can collect to keep you alive and in the game longer.  The radar will help you stay in tune with where they are so there are no surprise attacks.  There are 100 levels in all to keep you in the action for hours.

If your goal is to curl up with your DSi and a warm beverage, then expect to lose this game on the first level.  System Flaw is not a game you can play sitting down, or with anyone close to you at all for that matter.  You must twist and turn to lock on and eradicate the enemies, so please take this into consideration when playing in public.  If you plan on playing this in front of members of the opposite gender, you might want to practice your spinning in front of a mirror to avoid any potential embarrassment.

I would like to thank System Flaw for opening my eyes to what was going on around me all this time.  Who knew these little venomous aliens were around us all along? System Flaw is a welcome new experience in the realm of handheld gaming.  Thank you for getting me off the couch.  You’ll have so much fun that you will forget how ridiculous you look spinning around and playing. If you own a DSi, get this game now. System Flaw is well worth the price of admission. And it finally justifies owning a DSi.

I have been looking for someone else besides myself who has actually tried this game. Here I find them. I got it and enjoy it and fully agree with the review 100%. SPOT ON. In addition it just seems to me this technology could be used for a DSi version of Wii FIT should one actually WANT it. What I'm saying is there is the potential for an exercise program attached to the DSi with this concept somehow... maybe if one added the spectrometer and a pedometer together? I'm just tossing ideas here.... Thisn idea in general really is under appreciated an d under used.
