Get ready for a global treasure hunt like no other! Aspyr's Treasure World makes you hit the pavement in an innovative game that makes you a treasure hunter.
Gameplay:: Treasure World starts out by introducing you to the Star Sweeper and Wish Finder, who have run out of fuel and crash landed on Earth. The Star Sweeper will give you treasures from his own collection in exchange for stardust, which he can then convert to rocket fuel. The Wish Finder will help you find more treasures and stardust by scoping the skies for wi-fi signals. Each treasure has a music note or sound effect linked to it, so you can arrange your treasures on a plot of land and create music. And that's the game.
No, really. That's all there is to the actual gameplay. However...
Treasure World is one of the most unique and intriguing games I've seen in a while. It gets you up and moving, on the search for those wi-fi signals that are being broadcast all around us. I can describe it best with this analogy. You know when you go to the beach and you see someone walking around with a metal detector, scouring the beach for 18th century gold that washed ashore from a shipwreck? That method of treasure hunting usually yields a set of keys or a tin can. But hey, at least the "treasure hunter" got some exercise. That seems to be the point of Treasure World. The treasures you find via your DS system will not be of any use to you in the real world, but you're getting out and doing something. And the treasures you collect in the game, like disguises, puzzles and anime dolls, are better than the junk littering our beaches. But again, the point is to get out there and explore. Unless you have hundreds of wi-fi signals broadcasting throughout your home, you will need to find these treasures in the world around you. Maybe today you'll take a walk through your neighborhood and tomorrow you'll ride your bike through an area where you rarely go. Just set Treasure World to scope, throw your DS in your backpack, and go.
Extras:: Aspyr has even created an online companion site to the game where you can trade treasures with other members or get tips on where to search for wi-fi hotspots. With thousands of treasures to collect, you are bound to be moving for a while.
Overall:: Depending on what you're looking for in a game, this may or may not be for you. If you live in the boondocks where wi-fi hotspots are hard to come by, you will probaby be angry about paying $30 for a game that is of no use to you. But, if you like the idea of exploring new neighborhoods with wi-fi hotspots aplenty, then definitely check this out. You'll find yourself becoming quite the wi-fi explorer.
Score:: 7.0/10
