WWF: Attitude for Dreamcast Review

Here I am, sitting with my family (ok, just my 2 brothers) and friends watching WWF, and all I'm thinking is how the hell can people watch this? Its all fake and some of the stuff is downright hideous.

It degrades the eyes of many people that expect some good quality entertainment, and the arrogance of some of these characters is at the least laughable.

"If ya smEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL what the ROCK (pause for like 72 hours)....is cooking" brought forth all of my attention as I sat there being captivated by the fascinating wrestler...known as the "Rock".

Flash forward a few weeks later:: After learning about the enchanting plots in WWF involving some of the exorbitant characters, I was drawn to this event along with the mass audiences consisting of millions to the WWF. After reading the release dates of some new DC games coming out, I shared with my friends and family about this game as we decided to 'chip in' some dough to get this game. Plugging this game and trying some of the different audio selections on my 110 x 5 watts of Dolby Digital (by this way, this game has not been encoded in Dolby Digital) stereo and fixing the tints and colors on my 27" Cinema Series from Toshiba ( has either the highest or one of the highest on screen lines of resolution), the game was an absolute disgust! This consisted of childish button mashing gameplay, ear bleeding audio (I would rather stick a sharp pencil as hard as I could into my ears), and the graphics looked like the PSX's but just imagine it with a high res pack from N64 to wash away the pixels. Here is the scoop:

WWF AttitudeVisuals:: Here we have one of the biggest names in the video game biz with WWF doing a game on the extremely powerful "texture mapping monster", Dreamcast. Yes, the system from Sega that can do 3 million + polygons with all effects on! Being a first generation title, my shallow and warped heart gave these guys a chance to make something that at LEAST looks descent. Im not asking for Shenmue or even NBA2k type of graphics, just something worthwhile that my eyes can somewhat enjoy. What do we get?? Horrible...no... make that "REPULSIVE" motion captured ( I wonder if they used a 3 legged dog to motion capture this, I dont know, some people use weird objects these days to satisfy their wants and needs) characters. Each and every one of them move with stiffness of a dead old rotting tree, you know...ever seen the movie "Sleepy Hollow", the part where they show the "Tree of the Dead"? Well, that's what it was like. I must say, the motions of the characters were almost lifelike during their introductions, but it goes downhill from that point on, no make that a "falling of a cliff"! The textures on the character's front portion of the body (face, front body, etc) wasn't anything to appreciate, but at least was convincing to see who each and every character was, so they get a golf clap from the Platedropper. The rings and stages held the same as they did for the characters for the intros. Flashes of fireworks for Triple H was semi intersting, the way Stone Cold moved was kinda neat, but for being on the almight powerful DC, this doesnt really deserve much praise.

Audio:: As for the sound, the low end sounds (bass) was distorted, instead of that nice 'thumping' sound you would like to hear. The high end sounds (treble) were also muffled by screeching noises from the players, to the crowd, and even to the sound effects. The clarity of the sound was stale whether you put in "stereo" or "mono" sound.

Gameplay/Control:: To compare the fighting engine of to the likes of Virtua Fighter would be like comparing dog crap with a treasure box with diamonds and assortment of jewels. I cant really think of anything to compare with it, so Ill take for whats it worth. Tedious, repetitive, sluggish button mashing is what is used as the main fighting engine that is overwhelingly used throughout the game. Each character do have some of their patented moves, but nevertheless, its pretty much the same with all the characters. I mean, just imagine getting a Mike Tyson boxing im game where all of the characters chew off others peoples ears!! That would be bloody messy ( come to think of it, I rather play that game then WWF attitude!)! You include some off timing control, then you can understand my feelings. One other feature that I forgot to mention of importance, was that in the "tag team mode" the AI chooses who you fight with during ring time!! So lets say 2 others wrestlers are happily beating you up to a bloody pulp, you dont have the option to choose who you want to pulverize!! Ahhhhhhhh, this is the first time I seen Communism in a game!!

Extras:: While this game sports around 20 different options like "Pay Per View" mode, or Create a Player, it really sits there like a pretty statue....you cant really do much with a statue besides looki at it for 10 seconds. The Create a Player feature isnt worth using if the fighting engine stinks like a big mans behind after scarfing spicy tacos from Taco Bell. Its worth noting that it was at least considerate of Acclaim to include this feature, but like most extra features in other games, it doesnt do its main job, which is to "enhance" the game.

Overall:: Well, this game sucked to put it simply. My friends and brothers were also bothered by the horrendous game play as they are big fans of wrestling games. Save your money and just wait until another wrestling games comes along, I mean after all, do you really wanna spend your money on a "PSX" port. What a disturbing thought!! HAHA
