Of course Italy is one of the most beautiful countries to visit and the food is good too, two good reasons to come and visit. After seeing Rome, the next most interesting city is probably Milan.
This northern city in Italy is a hive of activity from fashion week to pulsating football. There are also many attractions that should not be missed when in Milan.

Duomo
This gothic cathedral located in central Milan dates back to the 1300’s. It is even said to house one of the nails from the crucifixion of Christ. The cathedral consists of 3,400 statues, 135 spires and 96 gargoyles.
It is best visited in full sunshine when the interior is illuminated by the colorful mosaic of its stained glass windows. One can also gain access to the roof of this magnificent building to admire the spires and gargoyles at close quarters. The church has five aisles and can seat 40,000 worshippers.
Castello Sforzesco (Sforza Castle)
Another must visit in Central Milan, this fascinating building was built in 1368 by Gian Galeazzo Visconti to defend the city from attack.
After many years in ruin, the castle was rebuilt in the late 1900s. From 1893 onwards the castle gradually became home to various cultural institutions and art collections and remains an integral part of the city’s culture today. Guided tours are available.
La Scala
This world famous opera venue and theatre is definitely worth a visit. Attracting world class performers such as Placido Domingo, the theatre was built in 1778 but destroyed during the second world war.
However, after laborious reconstruction, the theatre was reborn and restored to its former glory. The ticket box office is located in the Piazza del Duomo if you are interested in catching a show. Check out the museum which adjoins this must see attraction.
Stadio San Siro
All football fans will marvel at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the San Siro area of Milan. The stadium is home to two of Italy’s biggest clubs , AC Milan and Internazionale. Guided tours of the stadium are available each day from 10.00am until 17.00pm.
You can use public transport(tram, metro or bus) to get to San Siro which is about 5km west of Milan centre. A better option would be to get car hire at Milan Airport and explore the region at your own convenience.
